How to use presentation slides to best

How many times have you attended a presentation where he apparently much attention in the design of slides - and apparently not in use? Or if the president has played with the slides, like to entertain rather than edify?

Such idiosyncratic presentation techniques have helped libelous phrase "death by PowerPoint. PowerPoint and other visual aids can improve presentation significantly if properly used. And significantly harmful if not used.

It is normal that each person has his own style to use slide. Such individuality often adds to the effectiveness of the presentation, but the clarity excessive damage individuality and understanding, endangering efficiency.

Fortunately, this problem can be solved easily. Recognizing and applying three fundamental principles of slide presentations, you can do "Death by PowerPoint" completely disappear.

Principles Fundamental slideshow

1. Use the slides, and not be controlled by them

It is important to recognize that the blades are a visual aid. And the most important part of this term is to "help". Too many speakers seem to believe that they show enough slides your presentation will automatically be a success.

The reverse is true. Whatever the slides, if they take the stage, with almost certainly less effective than it could be.

2. Show that you are responsible

Note that the greatest visual aid is YOU. People come to hear what you have to say, they believe they have something important to convey to them. If I want to see, hear your voice and see their facial expressions, and monitor the movements of the body to better understand and evaluate ideas and information.

If you start your presentation by immediately switching off lights and keep them out until this is over, it's almost as if you are not. It would be easier and more convenient for everyone just to send the public presentation in the form of video or DVD that can play in their free time.

3. Submit a "win-win"

To be truly effective, it should slide:

• Assist the noise provides Best Presentation

• help the public better understand the presentation

This is not a question of an O. He and the public should benefit both, otherwise no one will. This means that should provide a good presentation, both in terms of content and slides.

It is generally a good idea to prepare the first draft of your presentation without any slides, then return to your text to see where the blades are really necessary. This will ensure that does not drown on the blades of the audience - and that each blade is really useful.

If you take these three fundamental principles at the base, you are already en route to an effective presentation. Here are some practical suggestions to make your presentation is good in itself even better.

A. Use the accumulation Slide

Let's try an experiment. Open a newspaper or magazine to any page. Keep looking, but try not to read anything on the page. It is virtually impossible. When the eye is confronted with the text, there is a natural tendency to read.

Putting too much text on a slide has the same effect. They can expect the public to pay attention only to the portion of text speaks and ignore the rest. While he speaks the text above, the public will almost certainly read the text below.

The result is a significant loss of care. Since attention ensures better understanding, using the text heavy slides is detrimental to the speakers and listeners.

To maintain attention, gradually introducing the text, not all at once.

In the days of 35mm slides, this was done by "the accumulation slides. For example, rather than showing five points in a single slide, it has prepared six sides. The first slide shows the title, and rest of the screen went black. The following held the title more than 1 point, and the rest of the screen went black. The next slide shows the title, more balls 1 and 2. The The same was done for each slide below. Only in the last slide that the full text (usually extract elements bullet +) became visible.

Production six slides was of course much cheaper to produce one. But it was also significantly more effective.

You must use the same technique with computer-generated slides. There is almost no additional cost. You can also use animation to highlight each new item as it appears on the screen with reinforce its importance. For example:

Slide 1

Title

Slide 2

Title

• First bullet point

Slide 3

Title

• First bullet

• Second bullet

Slide 4

Title

• First bullet point

• The second point

• Third bullet point

And so on.

slides Illustrated such as diagrams, flowcharts, etc., work essentially the same way. Enter the piece by piece illustration for the general public does point not to a part of the picture while you are talking about another. There are three possible variants of this approach.

1. Insert the piece by piece illustration, with comments, until the picture is complete

2. See illustration to give a complete overview. Then reintegrate gradually with the comments, until it is complete.

3. See illustration to give full an overview. Then again introduce piece by piece, with comments, until it is complete. However, during return to the light to remind the audience that the play by play is to create leaders.

Read the text to the audience

Another common mistake is for the speaker to continue talking while the public is reading. Again, this is a significant loss of care.

The remedy is simple. He read aloud the slide to the audience. This ensures that:

• Public attention was first focused entirely on the text.

• Second, it focuses entirely on the speaker.

If the speaker reads the slide, the audience is forced to do two things at once: the reading of the blade while trying to listen to the commentary. It is maintained, and benefits all.

Use your laser pointer correctly

My bete noire (black beast) is red. It's horrible how many speakers use their laser pointers. As old stick pointers, lasers must be used for:

• help the public identify and understand the importance of keywords and phrases in slides.

• help the public identify and understand the importance of key elements in photos, drawings, diagrams, flowcharts, and other illustrations.

Scoring is all that is needed. Do not keep circling key words or visual elements. No lightning Keep Swinging laser across the screen. The eye naturally follow these movements. Since they add nothing to the presentation the rest of it.

The best way to prevent these damaging gestures is to use the pointer as its name indicates. Simply point to identify the keyword or item that you want to talk, and then turn it off. When you want to point to something else, just turn it on.

C. Pace Slide

Slides support what the speaker says. Therefore, if:

• It appears on the screen only when necessary.

• Stay on as long as necessary.

The first point is obvious. I do not want a slideshow before you're ready to talk. And, of course, almost nobody.

Immediately withdraw the blade of the screen when you need to appear is less clear. Many speakers leave a slide on the screen while talking about something else to have something up they are ready for the next. Worse, they create "slides" filler "that does not really need to have something there.

Damage presentation tactics. As long as something is on the screen, the eye will be drawn to him. This reduces considerable attention on what he says, and so little understanding.

If you do not really need a slide, show not. Either leave the white screen or a background color of the fresh project to the next slide is necessary. Do not project a logo or other artwork, which can serve as a distraction.

If it will be several minutes before the next slide, turn the lights until the public can see who is speaking to them. Remember, you are the star of the show, not the slides.

Properly used, slides can significantly increase the relevance and effectiveness a presentation. Misused, can significantly affect a presentation. This is a just a little more effort to do the right things do evil. We owe it to yourself and your audience to make this investment lower for the higher yield.
